TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops: Learn Outdoor Skills at Tri An Lake & Ma Da Forest

TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops: Learn Outdoor Skills at Tri An Lake & Ma Da Forest

TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops is a three-month outdoor learning program by The Mountain Tribe, bringing practical outdoor skills, environmental awareness and community learning to Tri An Lake and Ma Da Forest in Dong Nai, Vietnam.

Over three months, TMT will host 16 hands-on outdoor workshops every Sunday, designed for beginners, young adults, families and anyone who wants to become more confident in nature.

Learn a Skill. Meet Your Tribe. Go Outdoors.

Outdoor Education, One Sunday at a Time

Outdoor activities are becoming increasingly popular in Vietnam, but getting started can sometimes feel intimidating.

What equipment do you really need?

How do you stay safe around water?

How should you pack a backpack?

What happens if you get lost?

How do you set up a campsite?

What should you do when the weather changes?

The TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops are designed to answer these questions through simple, practical, hands-on learning.

Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes and is limited to 20 participants, creating a small-group environment where participants can ask questions, practise skills and learn directly from TMT facilitators.

The program is intentionally beginner-friendly.

You do not need to be an experienced outdoor person to join.

You just need to be willing to learn.

16 Outdoor Skills Workshops

The program covers a broad range of foundational outdoor skills, from water safety and camping to navigation, first aid, environmental stewardship and nature observation.

1. Water Safety 101

Learn basic water awareness, recognise common hazards and understand fundamental water-safety and rescue principles.

Participants are introduced to practical safety considerations before entering or participating in activities around water.

2. Fun with SUP

An introduction to stand-up paddleboarding for beginners.

Participants learn basic equipment checks, safe entry and exit, balance, paddling and fundamental SUP safety.

3. What’s in Your Pack?

A practical workshop about building a smart outdoor daypack.

Participants explore what is essential, what is useful and what can be left behind — then practise organising their own pack.

4. Family Outdoor Box

What should a family bring when spending time outdoors?

This workshop introduces the concept of a simple family outdoor kit covering basic first aid, water, lighting, emergency essentials, repair items and other practical equipment.

5. Head to Toe

Outdoor clothing and footwear can make a major difference to comfort and safety.

This session introduces basic principles for choosing clothing, footwear, socks, hats and protection from sun and rain.

6. Fire & Camp Basics

Learn the fundamentals of setting up a campsite and managing camp activities safely.

The workshop covers campsite considerations, camp kitchen basics, fire safety and responsible clean-up.

7. Don’t Get Lost

A beginner introduction to outdoor navigation.

Participants learn basic map awareness, landmarks, orientation and compass fundamentals before taking on a simple navigation challenge.

8. Into the Forest Safely

Going into the forest requires preparation.

This workshop covers route planning, buddy systems, hydration, weather awareness, insects and plants, communication and basic risk awareness before entering forest environments.

9. First Aid for Outdoor People

A practical introduction to basic outdoor first aid.

Participants explore common minor outdoor injuries such as cuts, blisters and sprains and learn what should be included in a basic field first-aid kit.

10. Knots Every Outdoor Person Should Know

A hands-on introduction to practical outdoor knots.

Participants practise foundational knots and learn where different knots can be useful in camping, equipment management and everyday outdoor situations.

11. Camp Like a Tribe

Learn how to build a functional campsite from the ground up.

The workshop introduces site selection, shelter setup and organisation of sleeping, cooking and equipment areas.

12. Leave No Trace

Outdoor recreation comes with responsibility.

This workshop introduces the Leave No Trace approach and turns environmental principles into practical campsite and field behaviours.

13. Leave It Better

TMT’s stewardship-focused workshop goes one step beyond simply reducing impact.

Participants look at how they can leave an outdoor place better than they found it through observation, small improvements and responsible action.

14. Read the Forest

Slow down and learn to observe.

Participants practise noticing tracks, sounds, plants, insects, birds and other signs in the natural environment while developing basic field-observation habits.

15. Read the Weather

Weather can change outdoor decisions quickly.

This workshop introduces basic observation of clouds, wind, heat and rain, together with the importance of checking forecasts and making appropriate Go / Slow / Stop decisions.

16. The Tribe Outdoor Challenge

The final workshop brings the learning journey together.

Participants apply selected skills from the previous workshops — including packing, safety, navigation, knots, camp and environmental practices — in an integrated outdoor challenge.

The goal is not simply to compete.

The goal is to become more capable outdoors.

Why Tri An Lake and Ma Da Forest?

Located in Dong Nai, Tri An Lake and Ma Da Forest provide a diverse natural setting for outdoor learning.

The landscape allows participants to encounter different outdoor environments within the same region, including water, forest, campsites and natural observation areas.

For TMT, the location is more than a backdrop.

It is part of the classroom.

Instead of learning outdoor skills only from a presentation or handbook, participants can practise them in an actual outdoor environment.

This reflects a central principle of TMT’s approach to outdoor education:

Experience first. Reflect. Understand. Apply. Grow.

Who Can Join?

The TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops are designed primarily for:

  • Young adults and individuals aged 18–34
  • Families who enjoy spending time outdoors
  • Beginners interested in outdoor activities
  • People who want to improve basic outdoor skills
  • Outdoor clubs and communities
  • Students and young professionals
  • People interested in nature, camping, hiking, paddling and environmental stewardship

No previous outdoor experience is required for the beginner-oriented sessions.

Participants are encouraged to learn at their own level and make choices appropriate to their own comfort and ability.

A Small Workshop, Not a Big Event

Each workshop has a maximum capacity of 20 participants.

The intentionally small format allows TMT facilitators to focus on participation rather than simply delivering information.

A typical session follows a simple learning cycle:

Gather → Demonstrate → Practise → Challenge → Reflect

Most of the session is dedicated to doing rather than listening.

The objective is simple:

Every participant should leave with at least one practical skill they can use again.

Building an Outdoor Community in Viet Nam

The TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops are not designed simply as a series of paid activities.

They are part of a broader effort by The Mountain Tribe to contribute to the development of an outdoor community and outdoor learning culture in Viet Nam.

A healthy outdoor community needs more than experienced adventurers.

It needs beginners.

It needs instructors.

It needs families.

It needs equipment providers.

It needs local communities.

It needs environmental educators.

It needs people willing to share their knowledge, time, places and resources.

That is why TMT is opening the program to potential partners and contributors.

Sponsorship & Partnership Opportunities

TMT is currently looking for individuals, companies, outdoor brands, organisations and local partners who would like to contribute to the program.

Support can take many forms:

💰 Funding

Financial sponsorship can help support workshop operations, equipment, safety resources, environmental contributions and community activities.

🎒 Gear & Equipment

Outdoor equipment can be contributed for workshops, demonstrations, testing and participant learning.

🤝 Volunteers

Outdoor professionals, instructors, photographers, environmental volunteers and community members can contribute their time and skills.

📣 Media & Communications

Media partners can help introduce outdoor education and community activities to a wider audience.

🌿 Venues Around Tri An

TMT welcomes suitable locations around Tri An Lake that can support safe, responsible outdoor learning activities.

🛠️ Expertise & Services

Specialists in outdoor education, water safety, first aid, navigation, environmental education, photography, transport, food and other relevant fields are welcome to collaborate.

📷 Photography, Video & Content

The workshops also provide opportunities for content creators and outdoor photographers to document real outdoor learning experiences.

You do not need to provide everything.

A piece of equipment, a few hours of volunteer time, professional knowledge, media support or a suitable location can all make a difference.

Why Partner With TMT?

For brands and organisations, the workshops offer an opportunity to engage with an outdoor community through real participation rather than traditional advertising alone.

Potential partnership activities may include:

  • Outdoor equipment demonstrations
  • Product trials
  • Skills workshops
  • Community activities
  • Educational content
  • Environmental initiatives
  • Photography and video content
  • Brand-supported learning sessions
  • Outdoor community events

TMT’s approach is to make partnership activation useful to participants first.

See it. Touch it. Try it. Learn from it.

The goal is to create meaningful experiences rather than simply place a logo on an event.

Join the TMT Outdoor Community

The TMT 3M Outdoor Community Workshops are built around a simple idea:

Learn a Skill. Meet Your Tribe. Go Outdoors.

Sixteen Sundays.

Sixteen opportunities to learn something practical.

And hopefully, many new people discovering that outdoor activities do not have to be complicated or intimidating.

You can start small.

Learn one skill.

Go outside.

Then come back and learn another.
